Eagle Float on the Colorado River

Join CFI, Sheri Griffith Expeditions, and the Moab Bird Club on this amazing day!

Float down the Colorado River from Loma, Colorado to the Westwater Ranger Station this February for a chance to see wintering bald eagles in a wilderness setting. Along the way there will be opportunities to learn about bird identification from our local Moab Bird Club and HawkWatch International.

    Private Upper San Juan River Trips are for adults and kids 6 and over. This popular 26-mile stretch is famous for geological wonders and interesting side canyon hikes, extensive prehistoric Indian rock art, and dwellings. We’ll find mild rapids and wonderful scenic floats along ever-changing dramatic canyon walls. This is a great family trip and a gentle interaction with the outdoors. In summer and early fall months, we can add inflatable kayaks affectionately called "duckies."

  • Where: Begins and ends in Bluff, UT the night before the launch, with trip from Sand Island launch to Mexican Hat takeout.
  • What months available: Best months are mid April through early July and late August through late October.
  • Number of Days/Nights: CFI recommends three night or four night trips on this stretch, the first night is a lodge stay in Bluff and orientation.
  • Group Size: 6  person minimum paying participants (adult or youth); 25 maximum participants
  • Age Group: Adults and Children 6 years old and up
  • Cost per Person: Fees based on minimum of 6 paying participants and vary by trip length. Fee includes first night lodge stay, orientation with our trip leader and breakfast.
